Physics is not a subject where remembering more formulas automatically means solving more questions. A formula is only useful when you know what it means, when it applies, and why it works.
Many students prepare Physics by collecting formulas chapter after chapter. Before an exam, they revise everything from one large formula sheet and feel prepared.
But when the actual question appears, they often get stuck because the question does not directly say which formula should be used.
The real skill in Physics is not simply remembering F = ma. It is recognising a situation, identifying the physical quantities involved and then choosing the right relationship.
Train yourself to think before calculating.
First understand the physical situation. Is an object accelerating? Is energy being transferred? Is current flowing? Is a force acting?
Identify what is given and what needs to be found. Then connect those quantities with the physical principle behind the problem.
Only after understanding the situation should you choose the equation. This prevents random formula substitution.
A 5 kg object is initially at rest. A net force acts on it and produces an acceleration of 4 m/s².
Start with the physical phenomenon. Ask yourself what is actually happening instead of immediately opening the formula sheet.
Learn how different quantities are related. For example, connect force with acceleration, work with energy, and current with potential difference.
Once you understand the relationship, the formula becomes much easier to remember because it has meaning behind it.
Start with basic questions and gradually move towards application-based and multi-concept problems.
Don't start every chapter by memorising equations.
After understanding a concept, try explaining it without looking at your notes.
Practice direct, conceptual and application-based questions.
Revisit concepts periodically instead of doing one huge revision before the exam.
So the next time you open your Physics formula sheet, don't just ask yourself, "Can I remember this?" Ask something more useful: "Do I understand what this formula is telling me?"
